(Re) Orient Leadership

Our Research

Original, ongoing research across adult learning, leadership development, and social psychology, all in service of the veteran community.

Why Research Matters

Everything we do is evidence-based

A recent 2026 study stated that despite the pervasiveness of programs for veterans there is limited evidence of their efficacy. Critical to our mission is rigorous evaluation and measurement of our efforts. We are active contributors to the research on veteran leadership and reintegration, and draw on peer-reviewed literature and conduct original studies to continuously refine our curriculum.

Our Approach

We integrate insights from multiple disciplines to build holistic, effective programs. Our research framework draws from:

  • Social Identity Theory
  • Self-Determination Theory
  • Transformative Learning
  • Positive Psychology
  • Organizational Behavior

Impact

Measured Outcomes

Our model of impact follows participants as they navigate life, building a holistic view of the post-military veteran experience across three interconnected domains.

Work

How veterans thrive professionally after service

  • Job retention rates
  • Employee engagement
  • Performance ratings
  • Pursuit of further education or skills development

Reintegration

Measuring the transition back to civilian life

  • Enrollment in other veteran nonprofit programs
  • Military-Civilian Adjustment & Reintegration Measure (M-CARM)
  • Social Identity Index
  • Social Connectedness Scale

Health

Whole-person wellbeing across dimensions

  • Mental Health Treatment Seeking
  • WHO Quality of Life Scale
  • Adoption of health-related behaviors (diet, exercise, etc.)

These domains are interconnected — growth in one area influences the others. Our longitudinal approach tracks veterans across all three to capture the full picture of life after service.
